Instead of FIXMBR run FIXBOOT from the recovery console.
I remember someone posting (years ago) to run the command two times in a row
before you try to boot back up. Perhaps Wayne can tell us of any value to
this. For me these procedures have proved to be pot luck, a long shot, but
surely better than no shot at all.
