When you downloaded the ISO image, did you also make a note of the MD5sum and did you check it ! Then you need to burn the ISO as files. Nero (I assume Wins) will take the ISO and burn the files to a disk. You can check this by looking at the file structure. If you only see a single file it is still in ISO form. Your machine should be set to boot from the CD. Although I have found some machines have difficulty with burnt CD's. Often the CD drive is the culprit. To get around this I tend to burn CD's at half the rated maximum speed. I have found some mainboards that don't seem to be able to boot from some types of boot image files (shades of bootable USB keys) In which case If you look on the CD you have created, you will find a boot directory with instructions on how to make a bootable floppy. Use that to boot to the CD. Beyond this I can only suggest that you get hold of a pressed bootable CD and make sure that the machine can in fact boot properly from it. Or you could check your newsagent for a magazine with a suitable distribution on the cover. I think it was last months "Linux Magazine" that had a full copy of "Mandriva" on it. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Gaffer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 8:53 PM > Subject: Re: Soft:Corrupt partition > > > Hi Richard, > > > > On Wednesday 22 February 2006 18:15, Richard King wrote: > > <snip> > > > Linux would have done it easily.
