In theory either way should work - hitting F8 before the OS Choice Menu or
after choosing the OS.
You can download from the below site files that will allow you to make a
set (6 total) of boot XP floppies that you use in unison with the XP cd.

You will need them in case you decide to completely re-install the OS on
your C drive, if you cannot get your system to boot with the XP cd. I would
imagine they would also enable you to get to the Recovery Console but have
never tried doing a recovery that way.
