exists & even then it's not conclusive until you find the culprit. To be perfectly honest each rail needs to be checked so see if they're supplying the full voltage & please don't forget the 12v side. Ain't that right Chuck? ;-)

The motherboard has to be completely detached from the case and out on the bench (use proper ESD procedures etc.)

Hook up a different power supply. A list member here or somewhere sent me a nice switch to hook to the power switch connection on the motherboard so I do not have to use a jumper to turn the board on and off.

Insert a different video card and memory. If the video is onboard, test with its onboard video and again with a video card, even if there is no AGP slot and you have to use a PCI video card.

Note that the only two components that are original here are the motherboard and the CPU. There is no modem, hard drive, floppy drive, CD/DVD device etc. attached in any way, power or data connection.

Only the power supply, jumper or auxiliary power switch, keyboard, mouse (optional), memory and video card are attached to the motherboard.

You can't blame the video card or memory for failure to perform P.O.S.T. because you used different ones, ones you know work.

The main reason for completely removing the motherboard from the case is we know it is so easy to overlook some normal connection. Also we me overlook a small screw or piece of conductive material that has fell behind the motherboard and in some way grounded or shorted a portion of the motherboard.

Again, I get to brag on Intel. If this test rig does not perform P.O.S.T. I know it is the motherboard and not the CPU. Moving the CPU to an operative motherboard has always worked. I know that one day my very first defective Intel may burn up a new motherboard. Until that day comes, I play my hand and take my chances.
