Now here is something - PPoE means Point of Presence over Ethernet (might have
terminology wrong
except Ethernet) whereas in the UK we use PPoA. This is slightly different and
the reason why some
CHEAP ADSL routers don't work here in the UK and they are set for US and other
countries.

Now the interesting thing I see is that you mention "Dial Up" or "connect" icon
to get onto the ADSL
connection.

My 'phone line is ADSL and running a filter for the computer real modem so it
can dial a phone
number for me (lazy bugger) but the router is connected constantly so any one
of my computers can be
switched on and access the net without any need to "connect".

Now the strange thing is that the machine I just "reset" for a friend has to
"physically" connect to
Tiscali via the ADSL modem before anyone can access the net. She has a USB
modem so I don't know if
there is a difference in USB connections or ADSL/Router connections but what I
do know is that one
of my computers shows "Internet connected" icon and none of the others do?
Weird! they all show
network connected icon.
