Subject: Re: Infrequent and Irregular Windows Lockups

Memory slots are probably best if populated in order (1, 2, 3, 4). However, with many boards, order does not seem to matter.

I eliminate the guesswork by following the instructions in the motherboard manual. For my board Asus says populate in this order, 1, 3, 2, 4. In fact memory slots 1 and 3 are blue in color and slots 2 and 4 are black in color to give further hints and reminders. Pairs are not required. Currently I have 1024's in slots 1, 3 and 2 and it is running fine. I said that to indicate that if I want to reduce my RAM to 2048 I will remove the stick from slot 2, not from slot 3.

Thanks,

Chuck
