If you look in boot.ini, the folder name is specified in the entry. e.g.

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
                                   ^^^^^^^^
And you can always save a copy of what was there before you change it.

Subject: boot ini

Just want to confirm that in boot.ini, the sequence of the OS's is the
same as what appears on the screen at boot up. Is this correct?

Background. A while back I did a reinstall of XP Pro on E drive. Being
late at night, I forgot the admin password, so I reinstalled a second
time in a different folder (thus 2 windows folders on E). I want to
delete the one that doesn't work, but want to make sure I get the right one.

Al
