Hi,
Would you believe that I had a backup on another physical drive and
that has disappeared too.
I would not believe it either but it has happened.
I was having problems with external drives so I moved the backup to
new SATA drives. These are the ones that have lost the folders.
Warm Regards,
Lou

The answer that should work for everyone is:
"Restore them from backups"
What? No backups? Please re-enroll in computer maintenance 101.
Folders don't vanish without good reason. Questions to answer:
1. Do you know the reason for the major crash? What symptoms preceded it?
2. Was there anything special about those folders?
For example, use of Windows encryption? (EFS)
3. Is the hard drive healthy?
If you said "don't know" or "I think so", run CHKDSK /R against each drive
letter.
4. What file system was used on the drive with the missing folders?
a) NTFS b) FAT
5. Have you searched the entire drive for any file that may have been in a
missing folder? This requires you know the exact name of at least one file.
Open a CMD prompt and enter commands:
x:
(substitute for x the drive letter of the partition with the missing folder)
dir /s /a <known-file>
(subsitute for <known-file> the exact name of a file from the missing
folder)

Subject: XP Pro crash-Lost folders on some drives
Hi,
I had a major crash of XP Pro. After trying to restore, I did a
complete reinstall.
I have several partitions and only the C: partition was reformatted.
However, some of my partitions no longer show several folders.
Is there a way to restore these folders?
Warm Regards,
Lou
