When you say "migrated" do you mean:

a) restored my data and re-installed applications after installing WinXP to
an empty drive or partition
b) performaned an "upgrade installation" of WinXP
?

If you said (b), that choice may be responsible for these problems. Upgrade
installations are not generally recommended because they can result in
unstable systems. In this case I would recommend re-migrating as in (a).

If you said (a), the next step would be to eliminate other software as the
problem. Boot into safe mode. Does the problem occur there? If not, then
something that is automatically starting in normal mode is to blame. Time
to look at all of the stuff that is autostarting (MSConfig or Autoruns from
sysinternals.com) and temporarily turn things off until you hit the one
responsible.

Subject: Win XP Pro SP2 window hangs

Hi Friends

I have just migrated from WIN 98SE to WIN XP Pro Sp2 (validated and
fully updated till 18 April 2006) on an AMD Duron 1.2GB, 512MB RAM with
2GB virtual memory on another drive. I use ZoneAlarm, AVG, AdAware,
Spybot S&D, CCleaner and JV16 Power Tools.

Everything works fine except for a very irritating problem in that
"sometimes" if I open a couple (or more) windows, the last one hangs,
and clicking the previous windows has no effect and does not remove the
hang!

And, the only way I can get out is by doing a C-A-D and not even "end
task", but just an "X" exit of the Task Manager, gets rid of the "hang"
without any loss of data, with all the open windows intact!!

I have done the usual virus, spyware, scandisk, defrag, scanreg and
registry cleanup checks, in vain.
I have not been able to search Google "effectively" for a suitable
answer.

As I have to write a lot of reports (not into gaming) this is fast
becoming a real pain when doing multiple cut/pastes.

I know that XP Pro SP2 is pretty much bullet-proof, so, I must have done
something stupid in the configuration:~(

I will be most obliged if I could have some troubleshooting solutions:~)

Warm regards

Cheers......................JK
