Hate to say it but your "hangs often and corrupts the disk" failure
mode is exactly what I saw in the first A7N8X-E that I tried to
install. I think the best way out is to contact Asus support
and just mention that based upon what you're hearing there's
something seriously wrong with this series of boards, and see
if they'll give you a discount on either a replacement or an
alternative. Ideally, I'd try switching to at least a different
board model, but your choices might be constrained. I think we
probably all chose this board because on paper it has a good
complement of chipset support and peripheral config.

PS: After two replacements, I've settled for the "hangs once a
week, and drops audio/video sync. now and then" failure mode.
There's nothing much good I can say for this mobo. based upon
my experience.
