I had a similar problem recently, the system had bee re-burned with an illegal 'corporate' version: Using full licensed version of XP Pro did the repair - update process and retained the users settings software and data while replacing the OS BUT .... be careful about updates to applications that changed the OS installed and updated versions of files (dll's etc)
Do check which partition ( if more than the one) is the active one Do remember to install recovery console Do remember to set a password on the 'Administrator' install id Do set a second admin authorised id, and a limited user one JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Gundersen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 6:30 AM Subject: Re: Changing Activation Code On Thu, 25 May 2006 23:30:53 -0400, you wrote: As Wayne says here (below) The corporate version with the original FCKGW xxxx etc key has been blocked since XP was 1 year old. Another thing to remember is that Home, Pro and "corporate" all use different files or procedures within the code that unlocks them. If you have a corp' version there is no way a retail pro key will work nor will a pro key work on a Home. So really you will have to wipe and install and register/activate. If it's a 'new' to you computer - what's the problem --- don't tell me it also got a million dollars worth of software also installed that you want to keep. There are ways around this but we don't discuss it here - do we chaps (+ ladies)?
