Re this particular nasty - the problem is with the MS Word processing
so as long as you don't use MS word to open the documents - yes
( remember you may have OE set to call upon MS Word to open all sorts of
'attachments', not just those with a type of .doc)

There is a /safe option on ms word to allow it to view things more safely,
and better still are the viewers for word excel powerpoint and visio

But remember there are also nasties that simply need you to click on a
message if your OE is set to preview the messages

If in doubt - save as
and then open notepad
then use the open within notepad to view the file contents from wherever you
saved it to
