Alex Davidson typed the following on 5/27/2006 11:42 PM:
1. You will need to know the externally-addressable IP of the network
you're trying to connect to

Um, how do I determine that?

2. You will need to fwd ports on the router to the IP of the
destination (and hope its IP doesn't change) - I think it's 5800-5801
and 5900-5901. One is for the JAVA client and one is for the
application client

Is the "destination IP" the IP of her work computer or the IP of the work router?
3. You will need to open up the firewall on the workstation you are
connecting to for the VNC Server exe

"Open up" the firewall?

In the case of 1 being a dynamic IP, an account at DynDNS.org along
with some software can help you maintain a connection over time.

Just looked at DynDNS and the "Dynamic DNS" service is the one you're suggesting, right?
This is why I use LogMeIn - once it's installed, it's hands-off other
than for updates

Only three issues with LMI: (1) it's not free, (2) a 3rd party is an
intermediary, (3) someone here challenged me ;-)

Thanks.
