I have been considering replacing my trusty old v. 1 LinkSys WRT54G router
with something newer. The 54G still works fine but am in need of something
that will give me more range. The proximate reason for doing this is that we
are putting in a new shop building out back of the house and I want to put a
machine out there that will be connected wirelessly to the rest of the home
LAN. We live in an old 1920s vintage farm house and the 54G won't quite
reach the living room at the further corner of the house (although it DOES
reach the bedroom immediately above the living room...) so I am sure it
isn't going to punch out to the back yard.

Since I have had such yeoman service from the 54G, the current front runner
to be its replacement is the LinkSys WRT54GX4 with SRX400. I have read
consistently positive reviews of the product but I generally value to
opinions of most of the folks here over those from elsewhere so thought I
would check here before deciding for sure.

Has anyone here used this particular router before, and if so, could you
venture an opinion? I would also be interested in experiences with similar
routers by different manufacturers. I have read some good things about
Belkin's Pre-N line but while I have never used Belkin wireless gear, I have
had a couple of their UPS units and found the quality of manufacture to be
very poor. That has pretty much soured me on the Belkin line but I can be
persuaded. ;)

Thanks very much.

Hope y'all have a great weekend; I have 10 squares of shingles to tack down!
