my wireless often dies when we're using the phone - it's worse with the
handset in the living room (one of those no phone jack wireless units) -
then the DSL dies too.

I'm getting terrible performance from a new router, the (horrid) alcatel
speedtouch 576 (no built-in switch, so no wired LAN, I had to install a
second NIC to support my LAN). It's great on the host PC (mine), but
wireless performance is close to zero, and the wireless PC is currently
only 4 feet away, behind me (using a new 3com usb dongle, also tried a
new cable & wireless, both 11g). Could it be because the digital (ie
cordless phone) base-unit is sitting right next to the unit? Or perhaps
because a powered hub is on top of the router? I'm stuck for desk space,
as you can tell :) I know I could just power everything off, but I
only get minutes at a time to play with the config etc, what with the
family's demands for pc usage blah blah. I got so cheesed off I've ended
up powering the damn thing off and goiing back to my dsl modem. Knew I
should have gone for the Netgear I'm used to sigh
