I have told the computer to use 192.168.0.2 and have also reserved the address in the router setup - as it always has been!

This is what is confusing me. Are you saying that when the server changes IP, you log into the router and view the "Reserved IP table", the actual entry for the server no longer reads .2?

There are only two possible answers to the question above [(.2) or (not .2)]. So the following might suggest where to look further based on which answer is selected.

If the Reserved IP table has changed (reads any number other than the original .2) then the router is defective or the table is getting edited. The Reserved IP table is a "static" table, not a "dynamic" table. In general, static tables can only change by editing them. They do not monitor for, nor react to, any change in the real world value of the various fields that make up that table. IOW if the table does not read .2, then the task would be to uncover who or what is editing the Reserved IP table since it can/should not change by itself.

If the Reserved IP table has not changed (reads .2), but the server has changed IP, then the task would be to uncover which of the two, the router or the server is not playing nice with dhcp. Some of the possibilities might be the router not honoring the [reserved] dhcp request, or the server turning down the dhcp offer. Check the server's event viewer to see if there are any messages listed which pertain to dhcp.
