Hi Andy, I tried this and thought we were getting somewhere, but ultimately, we ended in the same place.
There was no recovery partition. I have a copy of Win 98 SE I could install, but finding those drivers has proved to be a problem. They are not available at the HP website. The sound and video are integrated on the motherboard. The recovery routine can usually be run directly from the partition if one is present. Otherwise just use a Win98/Win98se CD to reinstall the OS. You will need to chase down some device drivers unless they can be saved from the present OS installation. Also, look for a c:\windows\options\cabs folder. That can sometimes be used to reinstall the OS.
