Because it isn't on a network it is a single computer fed from a router
with the broadband "modem" inside.

When you have another computer attached then yo will have a network. but
to see the other computer to will have to allow it to be seen and
contacted by the other machine otherwise it is another single machine
sharing a WAN connection via a router.
