I'm sorry but you're off in your assumptions in many ways... I have both of these coolers to look at up close (still mounted to motherboards so I'm not disassembling).
Talking about the socket 478 cooler... You are right that it is a single molding and the fan frame molding clips to the heatsink. But the existing fan is about 75mm. The fan shroud depth is 8 mm on the edges (depth is 25mm in the center). The heatsink clamps snap onto and push against the edge of the fan frame to secure the cooler. If you discard the fan you've discarded what the clamps need to secure the heatsink. So, without extensive re-engineering (involving a hacksaw), a non-exact replacement is out of the question to keep using this cooler. And you can't give me a URL where I can order a replacement fan with the correct frame. Likewise, I'm 99.99% sure you can't give me a URL for a replacement fan which will mount directly on the round socket 775 cooler. It uses a 90mm (not 92) fan with a round frame. Any square-frame fan of similar diameter wouldn't have any place to screw down, and a smaller diameter fan wouldn't provide proper airflow. The second one I don't recognise at all ! In the case of the first one the fan is easy to replace ! Simply discard the whole fan and fit a standard Dynatron 65mm x 10mm 3 wire fan and use screws to secure it. Without having a sample of the second one to examine, I would guess that it (the heatsink) is secured to the mainboard by the four lugs and press pins. While the fan looks to be clipped / fastened to the heatsink in a similar way to the first. In which case it should be feasible to replace the fan in a similar way ! Cooler Guys as far as I am aware sell Dynatron products ! FWIW the AMD supplied Heatsink Fan assemblies are made by Dynatron ! > -----Original Message----- > From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of Gaffer > Sent: Wednesday, July 19, 2006 3:08 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Dell Dimension CPU Fan Replacement > > Hi Carl, > > On Wednesday 19 July 2006 05:46, Carl Houseman Inscribed Thus: > > I can get any fan?
