It was a new cable installation, i'm not sure she knew the account #
and definitely didn't have a bill...

When she tried to use the browser the first time, it went to the home
page and nowhere else. She couldn't set up (provision) the account -
she installed their software and i guess at the point the screen told
her to call in. She did - they had the previous resident on the
account (we knew this when the lady who setup service for her gave her
a funny look after entering the address and asked how long she lived
there - we thought she took care of it). It took like 48 hours for
them to remove that person and turn on the internet - they provisioned
it for her at that point.

According to a friend on another list, comcast now makes you use their
software the first time you get service unless you use an os (linux)
that is not supported by the software - he told me to have her call
and say she used linux but we nixed that as i don't think she would
sound very convincing... she calls the WAP a "rooter". <g>

She can setup the comcast account without installing the
Comcast software by directly pointing her browser to their website.
She should direct connect to the cable modem before switching to WAP.

Point the browser to Comcast HSI
http://www.comcast.net/comcast.html

Then click on My Account to set up her e-mail and password and other
preferences.
All she would need to require is her account number from her Comcast cable bill
to setup the account.
