Don't mull too much over the DVD packet writting incompatability issue(s)
becuase just like cars DVD standards and software will improve
and eventually get some common standardization over time.

Multi-session disk are by far the most compatible disk which can be used
in any computer and almost all DVD players. I'd stay away from the packet
writting applications like Direct-CD, InCD and Drag-TO-Disk.

I predict that Nero and Roxio may come to common ground on the
DVD and mpeg-4 standards within the DVD consortium and eventually
in the near future you may no longer have to worry about incompatibilities
amongst different recording standards.

With Roxio my best advice is don't use Drag-To-Disk and Direct-CD they're both
a piece of junk.
With Nero: Don't use InCD its a piece of junk also.

Its best to use the Multi-session writting engine than packet writting.
I no longer used packet writting software since Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

But a word of caution here: Yes the war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD
rages on. ;)

Thanks to all who responded to this query.
I have a lot now to mull over.

Currently the thing I use for a computer has no Nero apps installed, isn't
recognizing any RW disks, but will show the files on them. I just can't,
Delete, Format, or Erase the data on this media. (at the moment)

I'd love to have a separate DVD recorder/player, that handled ALL formats
whether it is a shop movie, or a recorded VHS copied to disk, as with any
captured video from the computer - Without question!

It is a mystery to me how things got this bad with DVD use. I mean if you had
the same restrictions placed on a Car: (this car can talk)
