Okay, gave client that just got a new Gateway machine running MCE2k2, my old Palm USB connect kit. This is the serial to USB adaptor that the palm folks used to sell. She has an old Palm IIIe. When I plug the device into the new machine, it's immediately recognized as a "palm handheld" in device and does NOT show up as a standard comm port and so is unusable with the Palm Desktop 4.14 and by extension hotsync. Trying to install the drives from the palmone site just results in it saying that can't find any drivers more suitable than what is already installed. Note this is a gateway machine that does not have any built in serial ports. By disabling, uninstalling, rebooting have no impact on this.
If I plug it into my XP Pro laptop, it gets recognized as a serial to usb device and offers to allow me to browse to the drivers unlike the MCE machine. Not sure what to do next as so far I am unable to get this working on her machine, troubleshooting info from the PalmOne site has been of no help. In hindsight, I just realized there was one thing I forgot to try and that was manually adding the device via the add new hardware wizard... Any other ideas? -- Harondel J.
