I would expect that any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless PCI NIC will work.
Windows 2000 is not ideal for wireless, but it usually can be made to work.

Here is a copy of their recommendation:

03. What are the MetroFi recommended Wireless Adapters?
MetroFi recommends one of the following based on your computer interface and distance to a MetroFi access point:

Indoor 200-450 feet from access point:

1. USB: Hawking “HWU54D" USB adapter. Device typically costs about $50-$70 and is available in retail stores. You can connect one computer using the USB 2.0 interface. It has a high gain directional antenna and is effective in extending range to about 450 feet from a MetroFi neighborhood access point

2. Ethernet: Buffalo “WLI-TX4-G54HP" AirStation High Power Wireless Ethernet Converter. This multi-port device costs between $50-$80 and is available online as well as retail stores. You can connect up to 4 computers to this bridge device.

Outdoor 450-1000 feet from access point:

1. Ethernet: Tranzeo "TR-CPE90-15f" all-in-one advanced AP/CPE model. This Ethernet based outdoor antenna ranges from $140-$160 and is available online from Tranzeo dealers or distributors. Please see our outdoor solution for more details. You can connect directly to your computer or connect to the WAN port of your home network.

I believe she is more than a 1000 feet from the access point.
But her daughter can connect with her laptop.
So I wonder what the practicallity of it is?
