Do any of you bother to use a download manager such as FlashGet with
a high speed internet connection? If so why & how? Just curious.
I have used GetRight (regular, not Pro) for a couple years... (I registered it.)
I do not care much for the v6 series (It includes Bittorent support.)
Currently using 5.2d
It allows you to pick all the downloads you want and get them later.
Good if you want to run through a site (and pick and choose) and not
tie up your connection (my DSL) or take the chance a D/L gets corrupted
by heavy surfing while downloading... (Using the "old way"....)
I think GetRight checks the integrity (more) of the D/L (while downloading)
so it "gets it right"...
It also allows pausing a D/L and resuming (if the server is capable.)
Plus, with the connection limit of the browser, (and most sites),
this makes getting "lots of files" from the same site real easy.
(No waiting for the first 2 (or 4??) to finish before you can even
"request" the next ones...)
Then they will automatically D/L one at a time when you say.
(And even shut off the computer when it is done, IF your
power management stuff works right. <grin>... )
The feature I like best is totally configurable for what you want...
When I download "today" it sticks all todays D/Ls in a directory it
names with todays date. That way, all my files are grouped together
for the site(s) I went to that day.
I used to have a generic D/L directory but it was a mess and chock full
of all sorts of things... Since then, I got better at trying to save the WEB
page I was on that described what I was geting. This makes finding stuff
and knowing what something is (some cryptic filename) much easier.
(Just being together in the same directory is a big help...)
Plus, it keeps it's own history list and even tells exactly (the link) a file
came from. (In case I forgot to save a description, that helps too....)
I might follow the "norm" (for most programs) and only use 20% of the
features.......
