Spoke too quickly. Problem not solved. The older version of Java 
broke more than it fixed. It seems to confirm it is a Sun Java 
problem. I'm back to v1.5.0_06 that doesn't display the radar 
loop correctly, but doesn't hog the CPU or crash Firefox.I.E 
doesn't display correctly with Sun, but does with the MS VM.
Oh well so much for easy fixes.
