I recently needed to reinstall my Windows XP Pro OS on my

You might want to do a "full" scan on that partition to see if
there are any physical defects on it.
... However on D: it was successful and installation went
smoothly. It now means though I have got Windows installed on
D; instead of C:. I have tried to format the C: partition
from My Computer\Local disc C: right click \ format closing
all windows visible, but this produces the same result,
possibly because it is still seen as a system partition, as
seen in the Disk Management Utility.
The C: partition can not be formatted from within Windows since
it contains the NT bootloader, which is why XP sees it as a
system drive.
What I would like to do is to format the C: partition and
then change the drive letters so that programs are on C: and
not D:.
Unless another list member posts the necessary magical
commands, your best bet is to start over. If you do succeed in
changing drive letters, many/most programs will not run.
However, they can be reinstalled to correct reg settings. But
if you have to do that, might as well start from scratch
anyway.

"Well I changed the drive letter from F: to C:, & restarted,
but then I could know longer log into Windows. Trying info from
the other article that panging posted, the only thing I could
do was to try and create a new MBR but that didn't work. I
tried running a repair on Windows and was then able to log on,
however none of my programs would run. So now I am formating
and installing Windows to finaly resolve this problem."
