Nope~! I found the file on my desktop and copied it to the appropriate directory on the laptop, but it didn't show up when I opened Turbo Tax.

It seems like the file can't effectively be used on a different computer from that which it was prepared. That's just a hunch. Make any sense to you?

No.  It will only show you the file if it is in the location "the program 
thinks"
is the default location...  You can actually put it anywhere... "THEN"
You have to navigate to it, and select it...
On the Welcome Screen of TT2005, look for the "Browse to find file" link
right under "continue return"...
You can also use the File/Open menus and browse to the file that way...
