Thanks. Please walk me thru pinging each other, and windows firewall
is off. I am not sure how to set AVG's firewall for friendly. But I
have tried it with the firewalls turned off completely, and that didn't help.

Hi,
I presume that each can ping the other?
In the firewall set-up, is the range of IP addresses used by yr PCs
set to "friendly"?

Subject: need help w/ lan setup
I just purchased a laptop, and I want it to share files with my
desktop. Both connect fine to the internet. The Desktop (dt) is
hardwired to linksys wrt54gs router. The laptop (lt) is wireless
and connects through router to internet fine. I set up both
computers on the same workgroup, I named each, I indicated which
files & directories should be shared from both.
Both are running AVG w/ firewall v 7.5.427. I have tried turning
off both firewalls but they still are not seen. Do I need to
specifically tell AVG which computers to pass through? Both AVG
profiles are set to standalone .
Is there someplace else that I need to set permissions to get these
to see each other?
Thanks
PS
both computers are HP (dt is compaq lt pavilion ).
I have tried talking to Linksys and they were very helpful to set
up internet connection but cannot help with Lan setup.
