Wow, thanks for the input, this looks a lot more complicated than I thought it would be. thanks again, Jerry. > Is it necessary to put a filter on the output jack of my > burglar alarm?
The DSL should be split off and a DSL filter placed BEFORE the the input to the alarm system. You may want to check with the alarm company to be sure there are no problems with their particular system and DSL. They can also advise on wiring configuration. Basically the DSL signal should be filtered out out of the phone line before it enters the alarm system. --------------------- <http://www.homephonewiring.com/splt-alarm.html> "If you have an alarm system, you should use a splitter so that the DSL data is separated from the voice signal that goes to the alarm system RJ 31X jack. That prevents interference originating in the alarm system connection from interfering with the DSL service. It also allows the alarm system to seize the voice line when an alarm condition exists, without dropping the signal to the DSL modem. Using a splitter in your DSL installation with a dedicated cable for the DSL data connection also avoids sending the DSL signal over the alarm system phone cable, which is normally low quality cable that is highly susceptible to interference." --------------------- -- ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is your picture included in the Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page? http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html If not, write to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
