Hi Folks
Computers (2 of them) kept stalling and rebooting for no apparent reason.
Thinking VIRUS or rather VIRUII I re installed recent backups on both and the
INTEL machine was Ok except that before the backup install the C drive or rather
Hdd 0 wasn't being found by Acronis, XP install or even MAXTOR MAXBLAST.
Thinking the worst I disconnected it from the network and tried every trick in
the book but ended up having to rebuild the partitions losing about 40Gb of
downloaded DATA (Boo Hoo)
Reinstalled the backup on the new primary partition it was/is now running -
REMEMBER FOLKS
Stuff your My Docs on another Hdd - all I had to do was to install Agent again
(beta testers know what version)
Now for machine 2 my FTP server and primary Print server and DATA store.
Again ALL the data is on 3 other Hdd's so no problem there. However the dammed
thing kept rebooting after the "windows is starting" screen.
thinking a complete reinstall is due (boo hoo) as the backups appeared corrupted
(all 3 of them) I decided it was too much of a coincidence!
XP install came up with the blue screen of death warning of hard/software fault
etc.
Disconnected all drives and tried to rescue the OS with XPPE but couldn't find
it (C drive that is). XPPE crashed twice before I disconnected the other Hdd's
as XP install did. Acronis Linux ran and installed the backups Ok but it still
wouldn't boot.
Eventually I removed the RAM and robbed the INTEL machine of 256Mb - It booted.
New sticks of 512 PC3200 400Mhz Ram solved the problem and all up and running
but due to sorting the funeral out and having to use Pearl's computer without my
mailing list and Agent - it's been a strain ------------------?
What happened to the telephone , paper address books and postage stamps?
The carrier pigeon was good too!
This is the FIRST piece of RAM in 22 years that I have has fail -
