Probably - I'd recommend a min of 512 for 2K running a mix of Office and
other utilities
and 1GB, with perhaps up to 2GB if you are doing re-constructions of large
files from RAR, or PAR sets

Main clues to your NEEDS -
What is the size of your pagefile, and if a fixed minimum size does it ever
expand

Run task manager - Processes tab and add Mem, Mem Delta, PF Delta, Page
Faults, VM Size,
Heavy Mem Delta and PF Delta or Page Faults mean the system is short of real
memory - You should spend the money

Large total (well add up the largest 2 or 5 lines) for Mem and VM Size mean
you are running applications that use large blocks of memory, but without
the PF Delta etc it means the system is adequate for the load, and you do
not need to spend the money

Also you'll need 1GB for Vista - Good though it is 2K Pro is getting to be
excluded from compatibility of more and more facilities
and is no longer fully supported by MS

Yes - I'm going to have to get a new system set-up to replace my circa 2000
win2K Pro system
(currently 512Mb 950Mhz and (today) about 700Gb of caddied drive storage
plugged in)
That will probably mean a new scanner - lose the 7 year old Brother Printer
etc.
