Well and early happy birthday to you Wayne. Both my laptop and PC
have both 1394b and USB 2.0 ports. I fact I have a 1394b cable that I can use
with
my Seagate 320GB external HD.
At that the Maxtor 1 TB quoted at $495 isn't bad and I may be tempted to by one
myself.
I can live with 1 TB so what's another 0.5 GB added to that shouldn't be worth
the $748 that
amazon.com quotes. Maybe either Maxtor didn't get the right quote from amazon
or Maxtor sales and marketing
dept. didn't sync the accurate MSRP to the amazon web-sales database for an
update.
In fact already my Segate 320 GB External HD is 3/4 near maxed-out limit.
I may spring for the Maxtor 1 TB external HD pretty soon. ;)

The drive supports 1394b which beats USB 2.x all to heck for speed.
Now I really need this drive because my mombo has 1 1394b port that
is currently not in use. Boo Hoo
The one thing is this Maxtor does NOT have 2 1394a ports for chaining
but rather 2 1394b ports so if one wanted to chain 1394a devices then
they'd need another cable a 1394b to a & I have more cables that I
can shake a stick at now.
Marc, my birthday is coming up. The Maxtor site says that Amazon is
selling it at $699 but when you go to Amazon it says $748. Hmmm,
something sounds fishy but those are the prices for the 1.5 TB & I
suppose I could live with the 1 TB for $495. ;-)
