Richard,
        Thank you for your reply which explains the problem. Do you have a way out 
of this ? It seems that once it has happened, it happens every time whether 
or not I attempt to move the window. I have ended up doing a complete 
reinstall which now seems OK. I have, by the way not changed the KDE window 
placement policy but I have to admit that ,while very good, KDE2 is a little 
fragile at times !
