I had this exact same problem (Mandrake 7.2, KDE 2), and I solved it by
using
a solution posted earlier by a user. It uses the 'kstart' command to
start
windows in a fixed resolution. Once you do that once, it fixes the
resolution
so that subsequent 'win' commands will open the window correctly. At
least,
it worked for me. The relevant email follows.

Hi.
The script I use to start win4lin under KDE2 is:
kstart win --window Windows -desktop 4 --maximize --ontop --activate
--geometry 1152x864 --type override
The parameters do the following:
--window Windows: the parameters apply to the window with title bar
Windows.
Otherwise the first window opened would get this configuration. At
present,
I get the "x days left for beta" popping up, so if I left this parameter
out
that popup window would get this configuration rather than windows
itself.
-desktop 4 --activate: : run it on a desktop I reserve for it and go to
that
desktop
--maximize --geometry 1152x864: make it the full size and set the
geometry
to match the screen size (one of these is two is probably unnecessary)
--ontop: stop other windows such as panel from jumping up on top of it.
--type override: get rid of the window decoration.
All of this makes it look like a real windows. The other suggestion is
to
remap the keys to switch desktops in KDE2 to key combinations you don't
really need in windows.
/brian
