well us slackers regularly convert these things to an augmented tar.gz
format (.tgz) using rpm2tgz and install using pkgtool, all at standard
slack sites :-)

but I think if you get the --nodeps switch right (and have set up the
initial library file /var/lib/rpm using 'rpm --initdb') 'all thing shall
be well...'
