Hi Anton,
I'm not sure about the font problem, but I can help you with the other
problem. This is actually a known issue with XFree86 4.0.x. This is
because the new version of X ships with the option 'backingstore'
turned off by default, while previous versions had it turned on.
The solution to this problem can be found in an FAQ on our knowledge
