I am running Win4lin version 2.0 with Windows 98SE under Mandrake 7.2.

Option "backingstore" is enabled in the Graphics Device section of XF86Config-4
and that setting fixed an similiar problem when other Linux windows were opened in
the same window as Windows.

I am now running in full screen mode by using fwin &.

There is still one problem - when I switch away to another console
(say by Alt-F2) to work with Linux
and then back to Windows with Alt-F8,
all I see is the mouse cursor and a completely black screen.

I can get it back by refresh and some more fiddling to get the bottom
task bar and start menu back. There are four separate steps:
guess where the desktop is clear and refresh, click where the start menu
should be, and run the mouse over the task bar icons to bring them back
and click on the task bar.

What can I do to correct this behavior which effectively prevents
me from running the rest of Linux because it's so difficult to bring
the Windows screen back?

Should I add backingstore to XF11Config in addition to XF11Config-4?

Thank you
Larry Alkoff
