Hi...
I have been running Win4Lin version 2.0 until recently with no problems,
using various beta flavours of KDE 2.1.
Last night I reinstalled Win4Lin under KDE 2.1 Beta 2 and I'm int rouble.
1. The quickdownload script is now retrieving Win4Lin 2.0.1, an apparent
bug-fix release (build date: Jan 29). This would be good news except that I
didn't have any problems with 2.0 and now I do...
2. I'm using Win98SE. My system is running Linux-Mandrake 7.2 with the
NeTraverse kernel patch. It has 128 MB of RAM, lots of disk space, and I did
the install following a reboot while running the KDE window manager and one
instance of Konqueror. During the install, I got this error message from the
Microsoft Registry Checker.
Repairing C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT
There is not enough free conventional memory.
You may need to remark (REM) some device drivers from your
CONFIG.SYS file. Or, in your CONFIG.SYS, you may need to
load the EMM386.EXE driver to load your other device drivers
in Upper Memory Blocks using DEVICEHIGH= statements.
I've never had this error message before when installing Win4Lin and Win98SE.
I actually redid the install three times and got it each time. Hitting "OK"
seems to work, but it left me wondering what was happening there...
3. When Win98SE was installed I immediately shut down and restarted Windows
(as per the install docs). My first task was to make the display match my
1152x864 monitor. I set it to 1152x864 in the Display control panel and hit
"Apply". The display resized appropriately -- but the window did not. It
stays the same size as it was for the 600x400 initial display. That means I
can't "see" the Start button for shutting down, among other things. (There
are no scroll bars on the window, clicking on the Maximize button doesn't do
anything -- basically I can find no way of enlarging the window.)
It is the window problem I'm most concerned with at this point. All
suggestions will be gratefully considered!
M.
