Has any Debian user found a way to successfully install w4l-2.0.1 (aka
5.1.1c-1)? I've tried using the same techniques which worked
successfully with 2.0, ie, use alien to convert the .rpm to a .deb and
install, but so far no joy. If I just install the .deb and run win&,
I get an error message which says:
IMPROPER_INSTL: dos: ERROR: Improperly installed.
Permissions or privileges are incorrect.
If I run postinst_rpm.sh, I get a slew of 'file exists' messages,
followed by the usual "All users that use the C shell (csh) or similar
shells (e.g. tcsh) need to log out and log back in so that the newly
installed commands can be used"
Then if I try to run w4l I get a different error message from the
above:
NOT_R_ERR: dos: ERROR: unable to open file
'/var/win4lin/image/std/vga/vga.img'.
File does not exist or is not readable by you
A check reveals that the file cited is not in fact installed.
I suppose I can go back to the 2.0 version, which worked fine, but
it's late and I'll have to try it tomorrow. I wanted to try w4l 2.0.1
to cure the annoying screen refresh problem and the Symbol font
problem, but I can live without those as there are workarouunds. I
certainly hope this problem doesn't mean that Netraverse has now
totally abandoned Debian users.
