Having done this very thing in /dev, let me tell you it's no
fun.  (System was ok, until I rebooted.  Then, that was it.
luckily all important stuff was on a separate filesystem, and
so I didn't lose anything except the system.  4 hours we were
back up, after I reinstalled the OS (SCO 5.3))
