I'm trying to use oracle 8.0.5 with win4lin 2.0. The problem as i see it is that
oracle expects a network interface card of some kind to exist, so it doesn't
install a protocol portion of itself related to TCP. See below

Q:\805>cd bin

I get similar messages when attempting to use sqlplus. I'm using the exact
same tnsnames.ora file on the win4lin side as i am on my windows 95 side.
I have no problems on the windows 95 side. Obviously, I'm trying to get rid
of my windows 95 installation, but i need to use Oracle Enterprise Manager.

Has anyone run into this before? Is there a trick? For example, telling
windows (inside win4lin) to install a network card, then install oracle,
then repair the damage to win4lin by installing the network card.

[please do not suggest waiting for win4lin 3.0 with it's virtual ethernet card,
there's already so much bad blood between the user community and
netraverse that I doubt the product will be ready or reliable in the time frame
I need it]
