Hi,
Upgraded to win4lin 3.0 and everything went smoothly. The installer
automatically used patched kernel I already had (RH 6.2 2.2.17).
Several things work much better in this version, compared to the
previous versions. For example, the serial port performance is much
better so that I can now HotSync my Palm at full speed. HUGE
improvement there. Also, windows media player now works for audio
streams which previously failed. Since these are a couple of the only
things I still use in Windows, this is great.
Just to push my luck, I decided to try to update to the 2.2.19 kernel
for RH 6.2. There is a patch (not specifically labeled for RedHat so
probably for the generic kernel) for 2.2.19 on the netraverse ftp site
so I decided to try it on the RH 2.2.19 source tree. All the patches
succeeded although most had offsets. I also found that I had to change
NR_TASKS by hand to the usual value (3834) in order to get a kernel that
booted. After that, it seemed to boot fine but when I try to run
win4lin I get the following message:
VMSVR_FAIL: dos: VM server initialize failed. errno=515.
I'm assuming that there is something a little different in the RH 2.2.19
compared to the stock 2.2.19. Anyone have an idea of what is wrong?
And is there going to be a set of RH 2.2.19 patches available from
netraverse (2.2.19 is the current RH 6.2 recommended kernel)?
TIA,
Scott
