I do the following with Gnome 1.4 / Sawfish:
- set windows resolution to 1024x768 (or whatever needed to fill the
screen)
- set the Win4Lin window frame type to None
- move window to upper left corner (use Alt-drag or Win-Drag or see your
Sawfish bindings/shortcuts)
- select "Remember position" and "Remember attributes" from the window
properties
The tricky part is to move the window and access the window properties
menu while the window has no title bar. You may have to change the
bindings/shortcuts for these actions.
Another possibility is to use the Matched Windows feature of Sawfish.
All the Sawfish options are accessible from the Gnome Control Center
(System->Settings in 1.4).
