David,
I have a bigger problem. I purchased a win98 new computer cd and the
installation went very smoothly. Now the big problem in condensed version
after much experimentation:
Recall I am using SuSe 7.1 kernel 2.4.0-4GB #1, 400 Mz pentium, 256meg memory
The downloaded kernel which win4lin installed from apparently under the
installer's control (I was asked no questions) DOES NOT support floppy access
or my parallel port Iomega 250meg ZIP drive. After many mount attempts the
error message is consistently "mount fs type not supported by kernel", this
is EXACTLY the same message I get when trying to use or mount a floppy.
Yet the install program "win4lin-install" was able to read my "boot" floppy
with no problem.
How can I get around this show stopper problem?
Lastly, I am a Physicist, not a programmer consequently couch your response
accordingly. By the way, with the exception of these two related
problems(vfat access), win4lin seems to be a superior product over my Vmware
product which I have been using for over a year now - congratulations!
PS: Floppy access does not work outside of win4lin either, but the SuSe 7.1
2.4.0-4GB kernel works just fine. Since I need to make a recommendation for
buy decision for my associates and I am using an evaluation copy, time is of
the essence.
