That was my thinking also. But, I switched over to text terminal 1 and
shutdown single user mode. Then, I shutdown Win4Lin using
'/etc/init.d/Win4Lin stop', killed the vnetd that respawned after
shutting down Win4Lin, and then went in and removed all of the Merge
modules using rmmod. When I next issue 'init 0', the system seems to
shutdown normally until these messages reappear and I have to turn the
system off. Everything that initd issues to stop the system shuts down
without error up to this point.
