Lee, I think wine-devel is intended for discussions on the design and
development of wine. Perhaps you want to post to the
comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine newsgroup? I will try to help, but...I
think that is a pretty explicit error message. It tells you where it
did find a wine.conf file, but the Path= for the windose drives didn't
point anywhere on the unix system it is running on. Those look like the
paths from the sample <wine>/wine.ini file. Your meant to edit that so
the Path=
lines point somewhere on your system.

While it probably won't do any harm for root to run wine, it is not a
real good idea for root to do anything it doesn't have to do to
administer the system, and leave the ordinary work and play to the
users.

I think the usual way would be to have a user copy <wine>/wine.ini to
~/.winerc and edit ~/.winerc so that [Drive C] at least has a Path= that
names a directory on your system. I guess you could make a symbolic
link to make /c point to where you intend c: to be instead. Until you
do, c: has no meaning to wine. Your real windose c: is not
automatically wine's c:, you must [mount it] and describe the mount
point with a Path= in ~/.winerc or /usr/local/etc/wine.conf if you want
wine to use it.
