My parents own Discount Liquor.  We used to be next to Econo Foods for 10 years until the Nash Finch "corporation" heard that the new HyVee would have a liquor store, and thought they should have their own, too, and WE were forced to move or close.  We chose to move, and currently we are across the highway in the Winona Crossings Mall (to anyone who likes fine wine and beer from around the globe).  Not to use this forum, but I think that we as a store understands firsthand what a corporation can do to a small business.  We were forced to start all over again building our business and clientele.  I love Winona, but from where I sit, people need JOBS, not shopping options.  Unemployed Winonans don't want to go to La Crosse, Rochester or MPLS to get jobs to feed their families...
I  know what we (as a family) are looking at as options.... both my husband and I being WSU graduates...  I have to say as someone who grew up here, went to WSU (which when you are trying to get a job in this town is a BAD thing-- people think you are going to leave for a better job) it is hard to get something that pays more than seven dollars and hour, is full time and has decent benefits....  We love this town but, if faced with closure because the but the big stores can sell beer for pennies (I mean pennies) over cost  and we cant, THAT KILLS THE SMALL RETAILER.

Thank you all so much for letting me vent
