WOD Meeting 5/29/03 4-5:30 pm
City Hall Heritage Room
Scant Notes by Randy
Schenkat
Present: Roy Nasstrom, Steve Kranz, Kathy Seifert, Craig Brooks, Karen Fawcett, Bill Kuhl, Clay Templeton, Terri Hyle, Sharon Ropes, and Randy Schenkat
Clay Templeton attended as WOD poster and representative of Distributed Web Site Corp. Our web site can be accessed at www.winonaonlinedemocracy.org which is at rHometown.com server. If any one want to experiment with all the features of personalized website go to rHometown site and click to build your free website. We will take another three features to expand what we can do with our website. The Quality Council will pay the additional $10 per month. Craig Brooks will explore these functionalities; if you're interest in working with him, please contact Craig.
There was considerable discussion on working on the representativeness of WOD. Ideas ranged from booths at County Fair, to speaking at group meetings, etc. For the summer, 2 strategies were settled on. 1) Redo the brochure, so it can be handed to potential members. Karen Fawcett and Randy Schenkat will develop that. 2) Send a weekly press release to papers with the topics that have been covered and way to sign up.
There was discussion on relationship of WOD to elected officials. Steve's conversations in past seem to suggest that elected officials are somewhat reluctant to engage because they question WOD's representativeness and perhaps fear getting embroiled. Some suggestions came forth. Remind people of the links now at web site; members should be encouraged to send posts on to their elected officials in the pertinent areas. Also, perhaps as issues come up, we could inquire to the appropriate official(s), what do you think? Perhaps, elected officials might agree to be a guest on WOD for a limited number of days(3), answering moderated questions posed to them or inquiring of the group regarding questions of their interest. We thought we should cast ourselves as a club of 200. How often do elected officials turn down a chance to communicate with groups of that size? We wouldn't see this as a constant feature; maybe once a month as a starter.
We looked some at the survey results and Kathy has given a link and attached a microsoft word file with the comments and stats( I believe it's up to 66 participants completing now).

There was discussion of forming interest
groups that might want to stick with a topic. It was decided
that if this is the case, the initiator can just develop a mailing
list for the group rather than trying to start up groups in
rHometown.
More information will be coming to WOD on a
live presentation on visions for K-12 schools at WSU on June 19th.
It was agreed to use WOD for a follow up discussion with a
participating panel.
Schenkat showed a model that had a continuum on need for certainty to toleration of ambiguity that could offer some insight into the nature of posts and dialogue in WOD.
We will meet again on July 24th Thursday 4-5:30 pm Wenonah Room City Hall. Key at that meeting will be strategizing regarding PR on a 3rd Birthday party late in August and the features that we will unveil in our 4th year.
