I'm enjoying this brainstorming session. I agree with Phil about the
restaurant. Of course, Finn & Sawyer's pops to mind as a well-known
non-success in this department. Would there now be a larger clientele for a
high quality dining establishment? I notice that places with a "bistro"
theme seem popular in the Cities and elsewhere these days...maybe given
Winona's cost-conscious mindset, a bar/bistro setup might be able to offer
both full scale dinners and less pricy, ala carte options?
I'm also thinking back to the Randy Sabien jazz concert this summer on the
Levee. It was a beautiful evening, boats stopped to listen, with the
audience seated both on the grassy knoll and on the paved area around the
sandwich shop. This would be a great location for a larger music festival,
maybe a full day or full weekend with some theme: jazz, blues, folk,
reggae, classical?? It works over at the Trempeleau Hotel. For those who
have been to Irish Fest or any of the other big "fests" in Milwaukee, how
about a scaled down version of something like that? The area could be
cordoned off similar to Victorian Fair.
