On Monday 3 November, the City Council will be holding two public hearings on matters of urgency for the people of Winona.
One is on the site plan for the so-called Riverbed Industrial Park (read: Wal-Mart); the other is on phase two of the Tree-Tops plan. Another "bad penny" that keeps coming back to haunt us.
If you are concerned about either, or both, of these issues please consider attending the Public Hearings Monday night.
Remember, the world is run by those who show up.

Why did the Wal Mart opposition spend all its time devoted to no Wal*Mart rather than making real arguments against the project? Why did the Winona First and those sympathetic to the group waste their time [verb] about the Winona Daily "News"? Why has the opposition chosen to wait before pointing out errors on the part of the city council?

As you will recall by checking the archives I pointed out Wal*Mart will be something similar to the construction of intestates in urban areas and cause decay. Interestingly the Post noted this in Editorials against the project but no one else really picked up on this until Winona First basically attained their phyrric victory victory before the planning commission.

To point: What is the Wal Mart opposition trying to accomplish at this meeting. I have received at least one email telling me to come to this meeting (not counting Dean's) yet these emails seem to be missing a plan of action. I know those people who run that group (poorly) are on this list. It is time to make the case for what you are trying to get the council to do. Why should I show up? It is that simple. Inspire me. Inspire this pessimist with a realistic bias who predicted a Wal Mart victory shortly before the end of the dredging project.

(I suppose some will say... but I am afraid someone will tear me up or whatever that [adjective] survey said people say about what ever it is that some call it around here. Fair enough... I will limit followup to questions only.)

Why does a police officer in Winona issue a warning for speeding and not for an alternate side of the street parking violation? If there is no snow, a mis-parked car will not affect anyone but a speeder clearly, to some, does pose a threat.
